About Konstantinos

Konstantinos is a Solicitor and Master Mariner (Class B’). Before setting up his own practice in Piraeus, Konstantinos qualified and worked in the Shipping Department of a leading international law firm in the City of London for more than 12 years and in their Athens office for one year.

Konstantinos’ practice focuses on all types of shipping disputes and, particularly, salvage/ wreck removal, GA, collisions, bills of lading and charterparty disputes, speed and performance claims, MOA disputes, as well as marine insurance and pollution claims. He has also experience on port construction disputes. Kostas is highly specialised on all aspects of ship (un)seaworthiness and the human element that pervade a wide range of shipping disputes from carriage of goods by sea to marine insurance and limitation of liability.

Konstantinos graduated in first place from the Oinousses Marine Academy (Chios, Greece) in 1995. He was honoured by the Foundation of Pateras and the Leon Lemos Charitable Foundation as well as Anangel Shipping Enterprises (in memory of Antonios Angelicoussis), being the top graduate in his year out of the nine marine captains’ academies in Greece.

Konstantinos Bachxevanis or Baxlaw served in the Greek Merchant Navy as a Deck Officer up to and including the rank of Chief Officer for six years on a wide variety of vessel types. He also worked for a period of five years as a cargo and nautical surveyor as well as claims handler in a Piraeus based Claims & Average Agency representing H&M and Cargo Underwriters, and two years in a Greek law firm dealing mainly with casualties and cargo matters. He also spent four months working in Tsakos Shipping (London) Ltd., the Insurance & Claims Dept. of Tsakos Group. He also worked for a period as a General Manager of the Greek branch of a major Shipmanagement company as well as in a Piraeus-based marine salvage company where he had the opportunity to act as a Site Manager in the response of a major pollution incident across the coasts of Eleusis and Salamis island following the sinking of a fully laden 1,200dwt Bitumen Carrier in the bay of Eleusis. Kostas holds an OPITO approved HUET certificate for offshore helicopter operations.
